New CAIDAS member: Gunther Gust
19.10.2022We are pleased to welcome a new member to CAIDAS. Gunther Gust has been appointed to the Chair of Process and IT integration for AI in the company at the Department of Business Management as of 1 August 2022.
Gunther Gust was born on 24.09.1986 in Tübingen. He studied Industrial Engineering and Management at KIT from 2007 to 2014.
Before moving to the University of Würzburg, he headed the research group "Smart Cities and Industries" at the Chair of Information Systems (Prof. Dr. Dirk Neumann) at the University of Freiburg. Previously, Mr. Gust completed his doctoral thesis on "Analytical Information Systems for the Planning and Operation of Decentralized Electricity Networks" at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He was supported as a scholarship holder by the German National Academic Foundation and the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
In his research, Mr. Gust uses the possibilities of digitalization to make companies and society more efficient with regard to economic, ecological or social criteria. To this end, he designs novel information systems that make use of artificial intelligence methods, such as machine learning and optimization procedures.
His main focus is on energy, mobility and smart cities. In his research, Mr. Gust emphasizes on the one hand methodological standards by expanding the state of research in the field of AI methods. On the other hand, he strives for practical relevance by aligning his research topics with real-world problems and collaborating with practice partners. In his research projects, Mr. Gust collaborates with international partners, for example with research groups at Stanford University and the University of California at Berkeley.
