New course offer "Introduction to Informatics"

18.10.2022

In this winter semester, CAIDAS will offer a new course that introduces key computer science competencies. The course emphasizes a top-down perspective on fundamental concepts for an audience without background in mathematics, engineering, or natural sciences.

In the weekly lectures, we give a broad overview of computer science concepts that are crucial for anyone who wants to professionally reason about socio-technical aspects of our increasingly digitized world. The topics covered include: Hardware, Software, and Machine Learning (four lectures), Data Storage, Encryption, and Security (four lectures), and Communication Networks and Internet Technologies (four lectures). The course will be taught by CAIDAS member Prof. Dr. Ingo Scholtes and Dr. Anatol Wegner.

The course will be accompanied by practice sessions in which we demonstrate the concepts introduced in the lecture. To further deepen their understanding, students further have a chance to work on small projects. Employees and students of University of Würzburg are welcome to self-register for the course at
