On July 8th, Fabian David Schmidt successfully defended his PhD thesis, titled "Robust and Scalable Cross-Lingual Transfer". The thesis evaluation committee, as well as the defense committee (Prof. Andreas Hotho, Prof. Goran Glavaš, both Uni Würzburg/CAIDAS; Prof. Barbara Plank, LMU Munich; and Dr. Ivan Vulić, Uni Cambridge and Google DeepMind), found Fabian's work to be of exceptional scientific value, awarding it the "summa cum laude" (mit Auszeichnung) grade. The thesis is a culmination of Fabian's four years of excellent research in the area of multilingual natural language processing and cross-lingual transfer, resulting in numerous publications at top-tier venues in NLP (ACL, EMNLP).

Following his graduation, in August, Fabian left WüNLP and joined Cohere for AI as a research engineer.
